Game changing ideas in Northern Ireland – Smart Nano NI 

Smart Nano NI is a Northern Ireland consortium developing advanced prototyping and smart manufacturing methods to deliver new technologies.

The consortium shares specialised capabilities around nano manufacturing and world-leading knowledge in photonics.

Smart Nano NI has been awarded £42.4 million from UK Research and Innovation’s ‘Strength in Places Fund’. The goal is to promote self-sustaining local industry through research and innovation.

The ambitions for the project are:  

  • create and test over 100 prototypes, leading to novel products for companies in NI 
  • investigate potential commercial opportunities with over 70 SMEs
  • promote new innovation capabilities in the healthcare, internet communications & cloud data storage sectors
  • aim for a productivity growth of 30% with industry partners

There are two clusters of activity, in Belfast and Derry/Londonderry.
