Keeping businesses moving  – Energy Coast Resilient Routes in Cumbria

The Levelling Up Fund will inject nearly £18 million of investment in Cumbria to upgrade 30km of the county’s highway network.

The funds will go towards improvement works on the A5086 between Cockermouth and Egremont, A595 south of Sellafield and A590 through Barrow-in-Furness. This will include repair and renovation of the roads and bridges, but also include innovative solutions such as carbon reduction measures and the use of recycled materials.

Cumbria relies significantly on its road network for daily access, and these improvements will support local communities and the economy, helping to better connect people to jobs, goods and services while also supporting investment in Cumbria’s natural, manufacturing, nuclear and energy expertise. The improvements will help to strengthen and diversify the local economy and help grow the visitor economy along its coastal routes.
