Navigate to new opportunities – Forth Green Freeport & Inverness Cromarty Firth Green Freeport

Green Freeports are special areas within the UK’s borders where different economic regulations apply, such as tax and customs reliefs, business rates retention and investment support.

The Scottish and UK Governments worked in collaboration to select Forth & Inverness Cromarty Firth to becomes Scotland’s first Green Freeports.

Based around the River Forth near Edinburgh, Forth Green Freeport will act as a catalyst for new green technologies, alternative fuels and renewable energy manufacturing.

It will stimulate the country’s re-industrialisation and accelerate Scotland’s path to a cleaner future. And it has the potential to create 50,000 high quality, green jobs in areas where they’re most needed.

Based in the Highlands, Inverness & Cromarty Firth Green Freeport will become part of the ‘North of Scotland Hydrogen Programme’, which plans to develop a state-of-the-art hub in the Cromarty Firth to produce, store and distribute green hydrogen to Scotland, the UK and Europe.

The areas around both Green Freeports will benefit due to increased investment in the region, training and new jobs that will be available.
