The best hires to take your business higher – Oldham & Workington Town Deals

Town Deals are part of the UK Government’s strategy for Levelling Up the economy by providing funds to 101 towns across the UK to drive economic regeneration. Town Deals across the region include a range of training and skills initiatives to fill local skills gaps.

Twenty towns across the North West have received funding, including Workington, Oldham, Blackpool and Nelson.

The Oldham Town Deal features a Flexible Workspace project, offering office space for local businesses and organisations on a redeveloped floor in the Spindles shopping centre. This supports the growth of the digital, knowledge-related, and creative sectors. The space will be marketed to small businesses and start-ups.

The Workington Town Deal includes a digital skills programme – the Digital Accelerator Hub – based at the Lakes College. The Hub enables people to level up their digital skills and gain a range of digital qualifications to enable them to gain skilled employment in the future.

This initiative capitalises on the diverse skills available in the region and specifically targets a major economic challenge – the shortage of digital skills.
